When Bogense in November 2017 hosted the 4th leg of the Telenet UCI World Cup, the course fully kept the #something special label promised by the local organizers.

“We were already very satisfied when we arranged the World Cup. But it was a brand new course and some small changes were necessary for the upcoming UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships,” says Beat Wabel, UCI Technical Delegate.

This week, representatives from the UCI have visited the site on the north-west coast of the beautiful island of Funen and as Beat Wabel said, only very few changes have been made for the upcoming UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships which are to take place in Bogense on February 2nd and 3rd 2019.

“One of the changes is on the hill side in the downhill section with the off camper. It will be a little easier for the riders. And then we have moved the seaside track some meters away from the sea so we have spectators on both sides of the track. It is important to have a flow of spectators.”

The riders will be challenged by 2,9 kilometers starting on the harbor, crossing a wooden bridge leading the pack to a long stretch along the coast.

After that, mud and grass is waiting for the riders on the steep hill that leads to the village church overlooking the sea.

“It will be a beautiful spot for a fantastic event, and I expect that a lot of people from e.g. Belgium and The Netherlands along with the home crowd will have a great time here in beautiful Bogense.”
