Triple cyclo cross world champion Wout van Aert Sunday celebrated a clear win at the biggest cycle race in Denmark – PostNord Tour of Denmark – 32 seconds ahead of his closest rival, Danish Rasmus Quaade.
The victory was founded on Thursday’s vital stage from Viborg to Vejle, where the 23-year-old Belgian sovereignly made the rest of the peloton look like spectators on the final crucial climb up Kiddesvej, which in some places has a percentage of 21.
Also at the time trial at Nykøbing Falster on Saturday, Van Aert delivered a huge performance finishing in second place only eight seconds slower than Mads Pedersen and better than the triple Danish champion Martin Toft Madsen.
“It has been a pleasure to ride the PostNord Tour of Denmark and I look forward to coming back in February next year, where in Bogense I will try to become cross world champion for the fourth time in a row,” said Wout van Aert to Denmark’s Radio after the success. “It will not be an easy race – actually the toughest of the cross season. And I’ll start my cross-preparations after Sunday, August 12th , where I will be present at the European road championships in Glasgow. “
