As expected it turned out to be Dutch riders all over the podium when the the U23 women’s World Championships race was decided Sunday noon in sunny Bogense.

But the order of the three young Dutch women was a little surprising as Inge van der Heijden ended as world champion in front of Fleur Nagengast and favorite Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado thrid.

The Dutch were always on top of the breakaway that was already established in the first of six laps – and when nine riders went out on the last 2,8 kilometers, a fourth Dutchman, Puck Pieterse, was also among the leaders.

But on the way to the slope, she and the rest had to slip as especially Inge van der Heiden turned on the gas.

With silver for Lucinda Brands and bronze for Marianne Vos in Saturday’s Women’s Elite race the Dutch women took home five medals of six possible.
